    New Cooper S Vs. S2000

Well... not even a race some might think! Keep in mind the S2000 has a claimed 7.7 0-100 at altitude and the mini has a 7.1 0-100 claimed and is 100Kg's lighter so stats reveal a fair race (especialy with me being 105Kg's and greanBean as passenger Kg and just the driver in the Cooper S)

So how it went down... I hook up with GreenBean on Sun night of last and decide to introduce him to the 9000Rpm bracket of an S2000, not quite for the speed but the experience as he has some quick cabbies of his own!

So we cruising like decent blokes in my S and accidently meet a bloke in a Z* registrated Mini Cooper S, red... so im up his rear end through a little traffic on North Rand road in the burg...the Boksburg!

Eventually, we line up alongside each other at the robot and he acknowledges my presence, cowboy... So i discreetly deactivate my VSA...

Pick my revs a little as i know this punk is looking to increae his street cred...Wat a Chopp! So robot hits green, i drop the clutch and have my perfect launch... slightly sliding to the left as we ROCKET through the intersection... by first i clear him by a car...perfect into 2nd and maintain the gap... into third and at the end back off for the next robot...

I did notice he started closing me in a very little by end of third but i reckon he has a strong third though... i doubt its quicker to 230Km

Race over... turned off left and can you believe it... GreenBean and I found ourselves in a deserted carpark, so i made a U-turn and went to drop him off...

Thanks mate, hope you enjoyed it!

    Good run there!

I had a dice with a clubman S a while back. From 2nd gear it was game over for the mini.

Meh... I test drove a turbo Cooper S, I was underwhelmed... I found the MkV GTI to be more exciting.

Nope, took it on Ou Kaapse Weg in Cape Town... windy mountain road. It felt numb and distant, while my S2000 feels involving (which is saying a lot, considering the S2000's electric power steering gives it numb steering).

Whether or not a car feels great on a track is immaterial to me, as I don't track my cars... if they don't impress me on the street, then I'm not interested.

I use to have the Supercharged Mini S.

The handling and performnce was incredible. I use to put that car sideways. You feel invincible around corners.

Thats why it ended up under a tree the wrong way up

No worries... bought the Golf 28 months ago, because I wanted a convertible. Financial situation changed, and I bought myself the S2000 11 months ago... Now I have two convertibles. The Golf is no sports car, so I never went in with that mentality. It is a very soft and comfortable cruiser though.

No access to photobucket right now, but the car is basically stock. I had coilovers in it for a few months, but shit just kept breaking so I removed them (plus I was slamming the pinch welds on the sills all over the place...).

The S2000 and the Golf are like chalk and cheese when compared to each other. Completely different experiences!
